Baptism: For those who are interested in taking the next step in their faith journey, we are holding a baptism celebration on October 2, 4p @ Oxford. The application deadline will be in TWO WEEKS, August 21. For more information, please speak to a a member of the pastoral staff.

"And now, why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on His name."
Acts 22:16 ESV

Women's Group: Please note that we will be on hiatus for the rest of August, and will resume on the third Thursday of September, September 15.

Numa: We will be holding a graduation celebration for our high school graduates this week, and would love to invite you all to join us in wishing the best for our next generation as they go off to university in a few short weeks! Please join us for a great time of snacks and games this Friday August 12, 7p @ Oxford.

Pastor Matthew Ma: We will be voting on whether we will accept the appointment of Pastor Matthew Ma as the new Mandarin pastor here Next Sunday August 14

2017-2018 CDC: According to our church bylaws, members of each Community Development Committee (CDC) is required to be a church member* for at least 3 years. That would leave our English and Mandarin CDCs sorely lacking in eligible candidates. In light of this, the Deacon Board has accepted the suggestion of the 2017-2018 Nomination Committee to allow the following special exemption, which is valid only for this upcoming term and does not constitute an amendment of our Constitution:

CDC Chair:
Cantonese - Member for 3 years
English - Member for 3 years OR member attending for 5+ years
Mandarin - Member for 3 years OR member attending for 5+ years

CDC Members:
All - Member OR if not, must apply for membership as criteria for accepting nomination

As a result, though the Deacon Board has accepted the suggestion, the church must vote to pass it in order for this exemption to be valid. We will be voting on August 21. The significance of being a church member has to do with the acceptance of our church and its policies and our statement of faith and all of the other important things we stand for. It is, therefore, essential for our leaders to agree on such a fundamental foundation in order to lead us to follow God's direction in unity.

*church member is defined as:
1. Baptized at LBCYR; or
2. Transferred membership from previous church - aka 'handshake ceremony'

Homeless Connect: We will be inviting a co-founder of the organization to speak to us after service on August 28 so that we can better understand the purpose of their initiative, and how we, as an English congregation and believers of Christ, can live our our calling to love our neighbours as ourselves in participating in this event. Since the event will take place on Sunday October 30, we plan to hold a Saturday evening service that week and to serve together as a church. The deadline for registration is September 4, so please sign up ASAP if you are interested. For more information, please speak to Dr. Kevin Lee or Kenny Ng
